Sautéed Sesame Broccoli

This is such a simple way to prepare broccoli yet tastes so different from plain, steamed broccoli. Kids even like it.

1 head broccoli, stalk cut off
Vegetable oil
Sesame oil
Soy sauce
Sesame seeds

1) Slice the broccoli into 1 cm slices, so that they look like small fans, not florets.

2) Heat a large non-stick sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add in a tablespoon of veg oil and a tablespoon of sesame oil. Add in the broccoli and sauté, cooking quickly, moving the broccoli around often– but allowing it to slightly brown in places. After 1-2 minutes of sautéing, add in enough very hot water to come halfway up the broccoli (do not cover with water). Cover with a lid and steam for 2-3 minutes. Drain and drizzle more sesame oil if you like, maybe a tiny bit of soy sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Trim off the tough outer bit of the broccoli stalk, then slice the tender pale inside. Sprinkle with salt and eat raw– it is del-ish!
